SAM Brazil hosts the Environmental, Social and Governance Alpha event

Madrid 27/06/2015

On 27 May, SAM Brazil, in partnership with Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), MSCI and SITAWI, held an event in the auditorium of Santander Tower to discuss Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues in the financial market.

Brazilian and international experts discussed how to generate value by integrating emerging issues in investment analysis. The speakers presented and discussed ESG integration approaches in the Brazilian market and ways of running businesses today.

Luciane Ribeiro, CEO of SAM Brazil, closed the event, and spoke about the importance of these issues for markets which are constantly developing. She also commented on some of the initiatives that SAM Brazil undertakes regarding this theme, such as the Ethical Fund and our relationship with PRI.

Launched in 2001, the Ethical Fund is the first Responsible Investment Fund in Latin America. The Fund enables its shareholders to invest in stocks of companies which, in addition to their traditional potential of economic and financial appreciation, stand out for their conduct towards shareholders, employees, clients, suppliers, government and society. They are companies which, like us, believe in building a more sustainable world, by incorporating social, environmental and corporate governance aspects into its business strategy.

In 2008, SAM Brasil signed ‘the Principles for Responsible Investment’, a United Nations initiative which provides financial and capital markets with guidance regarding sustainable development by incorporating environmental, social and corporate governance aspects into investment decision making.
